Abstract

The establishment and implementation of the educational system in the Canary Islands is a long and slow process initiated in the XVIII century. It is not well known yet because there are not many systematic research studies. In this article we attemp to contribute to know better the time without history of the first decades of the nineteenth century in the Canary Islands. We try to clarify the school statistics of 1835, signalling its importance, validity and limitations.
