Abstract

Using a qualitative and quantitative approach, this study provides a broad overview of perceptions school teachers hold regarding creativity, the strategies those teachers use to foster creative thinking and behaviour in their students, or the environmental challenges and opportunities they face when striving to develop one of the most important 21st century skills in their students. The findings reveal that the respondents in this research attach importance and value to creativity in education, however, a number of drawbacks and restrictions, such as, dense syllabi or emphasis on getting right answers, are uncovered. The research proposes recommendations on how creativity can be incorporated in educational practices to ensure more interesting and effective learning within schools in Cantabria.
