Abstract

The school is a space that contributes to the integration of inmigrant students, making possible social relations and the acquisition of the language of the host society, as well as the achievement of a better knowledge of the social and cultural context of their environment. In accordance with this premise, in this study we analyze the use and linguistic attitudes of students of foreign and native origin who finish Primary Education (12 years) in Asturias. In this way, and with a methodology of quantitative research, the opinions of 123 students from the four Asturian educational centers with the largest number of students of foreign origin enrolled in the subject Asturian Language are studied. The conclusions of this research show the linguistic uses of students in different contexts and the positive attitudes towards the two languages and establish interesting differences in relation to the results, not only according to the origin of the students, but also taking into account other socioeducational variables of the field of study.
