Resumen

Empowerment, Third Space and Co-participation: a pedagogical path between theory and practice. A Participatory and Transformative Action Research in the district of El Cabanyal. Based on the conceptual framework of Empowerment and Third Space, this participative and transformative action research aimed to develop a community-based participatory project designed collaboratively by and for people directly affected by the situation of social conflict in the district of El Cabanyal in the city of Valencia- Spain. Through individual and collective narratives and the action-reflection cycle, it has promoted a process of social transformation and formation of a space for interaction and cohesion among women of different cultures. The project focuses on the recognition of the fundamental role of local communities to build innovative models of sustainable development, based on the improvement of the resources, the sharing of personal experiences and the integration of knowledge. The experience of the study highlights the formulation and elaboration of a participatory research as a contribution to social change and transform social inequalities. The process of women's Empowerment and Co-participation may offer unique contributions to enhance the wellness of an entire neighborhood, in a process by which people can identify the community's strengths and concerns promoting critical reflection. The research is a process, a co-generative dialogue, which aims to co-create knowledge for action in a local context, to unsettling the relationships of power and contributing to positive change. The collaboration between the researcher and the participants directly involved in the decision-making processes is a way for the democratization of knowledge production and the decentralization of the traditional process of the research. The social pedagogy provides a conceptual basis for innovative strategies to face the solution of concrete problems and directing practices to the formation of critical thinking that inevitably leads to critical action in context and contributes to improving social justice.
