Abstract

The first stage of a training program on techniques for reading and writing aimed at knowing more about the beliefs and attitudes of Bolivian teachers, before actually starting the training action. A detailed online questionnaire was created and completed by 26 participants from different schools in Bolivia. It covered aspects in relation with the conception of reading and writing, but also in relation with what techniques they know and use. Results show that teachers have a predominantly positive perception on the reading and writing process. They perceive it more like a means to share knowledge (a toll to ‘know’, ‘think’), in contrast with other views that could stress upon mere processing tasks (‘decoding’). However, they do not seem to have sound knowledge on recent support tools for the reading and writing process.
