Abstract
Although in principle the hybrid learning context (Cenoz & Perales, 2000) where formal instruction and natural exposure to the L2 combine seems ideal for language acquisition, recent studies point to the wide individual variation in terms of the results obtained. In this study we used different instruments to deepen our knowledge of the use of the context that learners of Spanish made. The data collection tools were a questionnaire to measure the degree of integration of students, a composition in Spanish about their learning experience and an essay in English (L1) on how their image of the target culture has changed. Triangulation of the results indicates that learners valued both formal instruction and the different types of interactions with people around them.
