Resum

In this paper we present a brief report of the research carried out in 2013/14 at the University of Valladolid. The main objectives: to discover the importance the gender and sexual orientation stereotypes in society and in higher education, analyze the perception of the evolution of these and reflect on the proposals to fight them in the future. After using some qualitative interviews with samples of teachers and undergraduates students in Education we infer that some prejudices are difficult to eradicate because they have deep roots. Generally, their presence is accepted and people do not consider it as a relevant issue. Although certain stereotypes are disappearing as women come into higher education. It is thought that training at all levels is an essential element. We detected in this study that ignorance exists and remains difficult to recognize discrimination. Preconceived ideas regarding the «sex-gender system» are frequent. However, positive changes are observed and are believed to humanistic approaches, improving empathy and use of counterexamples in classrooms are the best tools to turn down harmful mental representations.
