Resumen

The growing expansion of Western ideals of beauty has meant that the research attemptsto understand how these social stereotypes of body for men and women work, especiallysince in the search for the ideal body they adopt modifications in their behaviour that maypose a risk to their health. The aim of this study was to adapt and validate to the Spanishcontext, a two-factor model of Body Change Inventory to measure orientation towardsthin body and orientation towards muscular body. The sample consisted of 406 students(201 girls and 205 boys) aged from 9 to 12 years old. The psychometric properties ofthe scale were analyzed through different analysis. The results of the confirmatory factoranalysis supported the two-factor structure and showed invariant with respect to gender.Adequate reliability indexes were obtained in the two subscales (Cronbach’s alpha > .87,composite reliability, > .87; average variance extracted, > .65). The preliminary resultsallow us to consider the Spanish version of this scale as a valid and reliable instrumentto study the orientation of the changes made in school youth in search of an ideal body.
