Resumen
Generation Z has grown up in a context where social networks and digital platforms grew at the same time as they did. This research aims to analyze the first steps of these adolescents. Special attention is paid to the use of mobile phone and social networks and the different activities carried out on them; analyzing the construction of their profiles in these spaces as a key element. The different uses of these social networks and platforms are analyzed taking into account gender; it is intended to investigate how it can influence theiridentity. An ad hoc questionnaire was applied to students between 14 and 17 years old from public educational institutions in Galicia. The sample is made up of 1020 participants. The results show that the age of 12 marks the turning point in the creation of accounts and the possession of mobile phones, showing Instagram and YouTube as their most used networks. Cisgender girls are more active and content producers compared to boys, which tend to consum more content on platforms associated with video games. Teenagers who indicated “other genders” are looking for spaces to connect with people with similar interests. The conclusions point out the importance of promoting educational proposals, which support the practices carried out in these virtual spaces, breaking with gender stereotypes.
