Zusammenfassung

Social networks represent one of the most frequently used digital media nowadays. Their characteristics have led them to be used in numerous areas, with their use as an educational medium standing out. Such is the case of YouTube, one of the most recurrent platforms for learning, not only in the classroom, but also in informal learning contexts. The present research work aims to explore the process of informal learning on YouTube, analyzing the scientific dissemination published, the characteristics most valued by users for its use, the motivations for choosing it and how the process of informal learning mediated by YouTube is configured. Three designs were developed: a systematic literature review, a quantitative design with descriptive and ex post facto analysis techniques, and a microgenetic design. The instruments for data collection were the direct query tools of the Web of Science and Scopus databases, two ad hoc questionnaires and a semi-structured interview. This is a descriptive-explanatory study for which a sample of 504 people of different ages, gender, education, and frequency of use of YouTube was obtained. The theoretical concepts that make up the internal structure of the study are Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory and Activity Theory. The results reveal self-regulation and personalisation of learning as keys to YouTube success, a strong influence of age on all the variables measured in this study and highlight the role of YouTube and internal dialogue as determining mediators in the informal learning process on YouTube.
