Zusammenfassung
This article shows the development of a research which aims to reveal parents and students' motivations when commencing music studies in the Conservatory and to analyze their initial conceptions of them. We intend to describe reality through a phenomenological study of an interpretative kind and to allow the participants' own implicit theories to surface. Semi-structured interviews have been used as a tool to gather information. The results of the research clearly reflect the importance of the students' context, the parents' interest in their children's cultural formation versus a more job orientated one, failing to acknowledge the professionally orientated character of the schools
