Abstract

The education of immigrants is a priority on the political agendas of many OECD coun- tries. However, the research tends not to look at higher education. For this reason, it is difficult to find reports that analyse the low percentage of immigrant students from non-European countries who attend university; that help to understand which are the paths to successful education and professional integration followed by those immigrant students who reach the university; that can give guidelines for developing educational policies; and that provide examples, as a mirror, or that could give incentive to other immigrant students and even to the Catalan young people in general. This article identi- fies a set of factors that has an influence on young immigrants’ access to the university and also on their professional status after university training.. This paper also includes recommendations for policy makers in the education sector.
